JUNIOR RACING

An entry-level program for performance-inspired athletes between the ages of 11 and 13. The entry to this program is based on trials and athlete/parent interview with the selection committee.

JUNIOR HP

Training program designed for athletes with at least two years of competitive biathlon experience. The entry to this program is based on performance trials and race evaluations. Each athlete seeking entry to this level will have to meet the minimum performance requirements set by the Head Coach.

SENIOR HP

Training program for athletes competing in Sr. category as per Biathlon Alberta classification. The entry to this program is based on performance trials and race evaluations. Each athlete seeking entry to this level will have to meet the minimum performance requirements set by the Head Coach. The athletes at this level are encouraged to compete in qualifying races for the Canadian National Championship.

CHAMPION HP

This is a high-performance program designed for athletes competing for spots on Alberta's roster for Canadian Nationals as well as Canadian National Junior biathlon team. Each athlete seeking entry to this level will have to meet the minimum performance requirements set by the Head Coach.

PROGRAM ADMISSION

Athlete applications are accepted year-round and entries awarded by the selection committee after performance trials (if necessary) and a personal interview. We welcome your applications at info@calgarybiathlonracers.com

Program requirements..

  • All athletes to provide their own equipment including a .22 cal rifle and ammunition, skis, roller skis and gear
  • Previous participation in Calforex Cup race series or Kinder Cup race series (for Junior Dev. athletes only)
  • Only athletes that are committed to performance in biathlon and are looking for long-term development will be accepted into the program
  • Athlete candidates looking to enter Junior Development program will be tested for physical ability, endurance, basic shooting skills and mental aptitude
  • CBR athletes will be expected to make a financial commitment based on 11-month training schedule regardless of actual attendance
  • CBR athletes will be expected to volunteer at certain biathlon development events (mainly Kinder Cup race series and demonstration sessions).

Program fees...

CBR is in its third year of operation and is primarily fee-based.

  • The annual program fee per athlete (based on 11-month training schedule) for 2014-15 season:
  • Junior Racing: $225.00 per month (payable in two installments per year)
  • Junior HP: $250.00 per month (payable in two installments per year)
  • Senior HP and Champion HP: $250.00 per month (payable in two installments per year)

*Fee amounts may vary from year to year and will be determined by the Board of Directors at the end of each season based on the number of athletes in each program.

Program coverage...

Program fees will cover:

  • Full cost of coaching and training
  • Waxing, equipment maintenance and repair (labour only)
  • Coaching and technical support at races in Alberta and training camps
  • Theory sessions and presentations by third parties
  • Practice materials (printing, paper targets, handouts, video coverage and analysis)
  • Race materials (clipboards, radios, etc.)

Program fees will NOT cover:

  • Equipment (rifles, ammunition, skis, etc.)
  • Race suits with club logo (a grant application will be submitted to cover the entire cost)
  • Race fees
  • Travel costs to training, camp and race locations
  • Biathlon Alberta membership
  • COP and CNC ski and range passes

Regular training will take place in the Bow Valley Corridor with possible travel outside of Alberta for training camps and competitions (depending on funding availability).
