Sept 28-29, 2013 - Biathlon Alberta and CBR host 2013 Summer Biathlon Championships in Canmore, AB.

January 5-6, 2013, Calforex Cup #2, Canmore

The new year didn't take long to start as CBR gang headed out to Canmore for Calforex Cup #2 last weekend. The only downside was that our troops were depleted with a few guys out with the flu/cold like symptoms, so the remaining members of our crew had to carry the load on their own.

Sprint was the race format on Saturday and our athletes "showed up" with Sergey leading the way in the Senior Boys category capturing Bronze medal, with Wesley finishing "in flowers" speaking in World Cup terms placing 6th. Ashley delivered a remarkable performance missing only 3 targets and finishing in 7th place in the Senior Girls category.

The afternoon action saw Chad race his way to Second place in Dev. 2 Boys category, with Brett finishing just outside the podium in 4th. India was on a mission last weekend determined to win her first Gold Medal of the season. And win she did, in style, missing only two targets. Her partner in the Rocket Sisters tandem Gillian didn't have a good race by her standards but still skied her way onto the podium capturing a Bronze Medal.

Day 2 didn't start that well as we lost a few more athletes to a flu bug. That didn't stop the rest of our gang from lining up at the start of Mass Start in the morning and Individual race in the afternoon. Races with 4 shooting bouts seem to be the achilles' hill for Ashley so far as she had struggled a bit on the shooting range today, which prevented her from cracking the top 10. Senior boys had a solid performance with Jakob and Wesley finishing 4th and 5th respectively, earning valuable percentages for the Canadian Nationals selection. Dev. 2 boys ended up making a few mistakes on the range that cost them the podium with Brett placing 4th for the second day in a row. Finn came through on Day 2 winning a Silver Medal in Dev.1 Boys category missing only one target out of 15. Rocket Sisters were back at it again fighting each other for a top spot in Dev.2 Girls category. In the end India edged out Gillian for a Gold Medal honors with GiGi capturing Silver. Great job gang!
