Biathlon Coaches



Coaching staff:

Airat Aitniakov, Head Coach, NCCP Level 2

Airat is originally from Western Siberia, Russia with several stops along the way. He raced cross country in his youth and earned a BA in International Relations from Tyumen State University and a Masters in Public Administration from Drake University in the United States.  Airat moved to Calgary, Alberta in 2007 to work as Sport Development manager for the Alberta Biathlon Club.   Beginning in 2008, he coached the Biathlon Bears and then the Junior Development program at Foothills Nordic Ski Club until the formation of CBR in 2012. He is a Level 2 certified coach and has been selected to coach the Alberta provincial team at the National biathlon championships the last two years.

Iaroslav Khomiak, Assistant Coach, NCCP Level 4

Iari (pronounced Yari) coaches the junior racing program in addition to coaching the junior HP and senior HP programs. Iari has a degree in Physical Education from the Ukraine and is a fully certified Level 4 Coach. He coached in the Ukraine from 1976 to 1997, before moving to Canada with his family to become the head coach for Biathlon Manitoba. He coached in Manitoba until 2008 when he moved to Calgary to become the head coach of Foothills Nordic Ski Club until the formation of CBR in 2012.
